Raising The Social Security Cap

A recent study by the Center for Economic and Policy Research asked how many individuals would be affected if Congress were to raise the cap on Social Security taxes. Altogether, 5.8 percent of workers have wages in excess of the current cap of $106,800, while just 1.2 earn annual wages in excess of $250,000, a level to which some policymakers would like to raise the current cap.

The table below breaks down the numbers by state.
